Cover blocks are made up of concrete and is used to hold steel in its position and to maintain a uniform gap between steel and formwork.

Concrete cover blocks are durable spacers manufactured from high-strength 25 MPa grade concrete, used in RCC construction to maintain the specified clear cover between reinforcement steel (rebar) and formwork. Maintaining this gap is critical to protect rebars from moisture, corrosion, and environmental attack, as inadequate cover can lead to steel exposure, corrosion, loss of bond, and eventual structural failure. The required cover block size is clearly defined in structural drawings and steel detailing, ensuring compliance with IS codes and design standards. For effective performance, a minimum of one cover block should be placed per 10 sq ft area or as specified by the reinforcement design, to prevent steel displacement during concreting.
