Tile Adhesives

Why to use tile adhesives instead of mortar ?

Before few years, mostly ceramic tiles were used for flooring. These tiles were porous and they needed 24 hours curing before installation. These pores of tiles interlocked well with cement - sand particles of mortar. Hence, creating a strong bond. But nowadays, low porosity vitrified tiles are used for flooring. Due to absence of pores, mortar cannot interlock with these tiles, resulting in poor bonding. Use of mortar for low porosity tiles may result to debonding of tiles. On the other hand, tile adhesives contain cement, grinded sand and polymers which strongly adheres to tile surface giving a strong bond. Hence, tile adhesives must be used for low porosity tiles.

How to select best suited tile adhesive ?

Choosing most suitable tile adhesive is very important to ensure durability and feasibility of tile installation. Using much higher grade can increase the cost while using lower grade may result to debonding of tiles. So, beware of salesman who pitches wrong adhesives to win your order.
